Tooth extractions are required when teeth are damaged beyond saving or erupted in an awkward position that may cause harm, such as impacted wisdom teeth.
Some of the complications of pain and infection may require dental intervention to remove the offending tooth or teeth. The extraction is usually done under local anesthetics or Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen (laughing gas).
This procedure varies from very simple to slightly complicated, depending on the tooth’s condition and infection. It is usually done safely, and the patient may return home or work when no physical activities are required in their daily chores.
Instructions such as taking a soft diet, resting, and using ice application on the facial side of extraction are given. Medications may be prescribed after tooth extraction.
